As the Head of Technology, you will report to the Chief AI Officer (CAIO) and be responsible for the engineering teams, platform architecture, hardware integration, and the reliability of systems deployed from experimental labs to fully occupied residential towers. This role demands active participation, including reading code, reviewing architecture, and troubleshooting issues in the field.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Architecture & Technical Direction
- Own the architecture of the platform, managing device integration and ensuring reusability across various products.
- Define local-first vs. cloud model strategies while respecting data regulations.
- Lead build-vs-buy decisions to integrate best-in-class partners and establish durable advantages.

Engineering Leadership & Delivery
- Build, hire, and lead engineering teams, focusing on high-ownership engineers.
- Partner with product owners to ensure product lines have clear ownership and engineering leads.
- Set engineering standards for code review, documentation, and predictable sprint cadences.
- Translate vision and product roadmaps into realistic technical plans and staffing.

Living Systems, Hardware & the Lab
- Manage the physical technology layer, ensuring integration of various smart elements.
- Run the lab and Experience Centre, enabling real hardware interactions for software teams.
- Oversee hardware RFPs and vendor selections to establish technical partnerships.
- Develop digital twin simulators for pre-emptive software testing.

Reliability, Security & Privacy
- Ensure uptime and quality for every deployed space with automated monitoring and incident management.
- Establish QA practices for hardware/software integration.
- Focus on privacy-first technical design and maintain AI safety guardrails.

Research & Development
- Oversee R&D into wellness and longevity technology while maintaining a technology radar to stay ahead of competitors.
Requirements

Technical & Leadership Requirements
- Architecture: Distributed/event-driven systems, hybrid design, data platforms.
- AI & Agents: Experience with LLM-based or agentic systems and API design.
- IoT & Smart Buildings: Familiarity with Home Assistant, MQTT, KNX, and building management system integration.
- App & Platform: Experience in mobile app development, backend services, and containerization.
- Reliability: Knowledge in observability, telemetry, and incident management practices.
- Security & Privacy: Knowledge of privacy by design, regional data regulations, and health data handling.
- Leadership: Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and a proven hiring track record.

Preferred Qualifications
- Track record in hardware and software integration, especially with IoT and consumer electronics.
- Experience in health/wellness tech or familiar with companies like Whoop, Oura, or similar.
- Experience in scaling systems from prototype to deployment.
- A hands-on approach to prototyping and debugging devices.
- Strong pragmatic judgment in integration and development decisions.
