The Senior Developer will play a critical role in ensuring the optimal operation and maintenance of the Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and its supporting clinical software applications. This position involves collaborating with the Information System Department leadership to develop and maintain the company's HIS clinical applications, participate in the deployment of new hospital applications, and employ emerging technologies to enhance the company's technological competitiveness in the healthcare industry. A strong understanding of medical information systems is essential, alongside technical knowledge related to clinical applications and software.

General Responsibilities

  • Work on web-based and native software development projects influencing various areas of the hospital’s business model.
  • Participate in developing hospital-wide technical designs and solutions.
  • Be involved in the complete lifecycle of software and web development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with 3rd party service providers, B2B/EDI Financial Service Providers and developers to integrate required systems into the company's hospital systems.
  • Analyze, code, test, implement, and update existing and new software and web applications, providing tailored solutions to the company's technology needs.
  • Offer solutions to technical difficulties affecting multiple hospital interests and operational factors simultaneously.
  • Coordinate with team members to provide comprehensive end-to-end solutions and products.
  • Mentor peer developers on workflow and complex software issues.
  • Collaborate with departmental leaders and the company's leadership to resolve issues effectively.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal communication skills to promote a friendly and productive workplace environment.
  • Adapt to cross-functional collaborations aimed at achieving shared growth and development goals.

Specific Technical Responsibilities

  • Develop a suite of hospital applications like OpenVMS based MedWorxs/STAT.
  • Work on UNIX/Linux Operating Systems, including OpenVMS, BSD Unix, and Linux.
  • Participate in developing new parallel hospital systems to replace or supplement legacy technologies.
  • Develop APIs for connecting to MedWorxs OpenVMS RMS Databases.
  • Maintain HL7/EDI and DICOM communication platforms among all hospital applications.
  • Create UI/UX Client-Side technologies using commercial and open-source frameworks, such as .NET, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Angular, Backbone, iOS, Android, Cordova, Node.js, Vue.js, and more.
  • Deploy API-based componentized services, including .NET Core, restful services, API management, and microservices.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in .NET, C#, C/C++ programming languages.
  • Develop application databases and schemas utilizing the latest SQL Server technologies.
  • Familiarity with open-source databases, including MySQL/Heidi and PostgreSQL.
  • Review and manage existing systems utilizing open-source programming and scripting languages like PowerShell, Bash, Python, Perl, PHP, Ruby, etc.
  • Understand systems development processes, from methodology through design, construction, change control, implementation, and production support.
  • Assess business and system requirements to design application integration solutions that emphasize component reusability and security.
  • Develop Technical Design Documentation, coding, unit testing, and execution.
  • Provide support for production and non-production systems.
  • Support the solution design for emergent business demands.
  • Maintain the optimal operation of hospital applications.
  • Oversee the hospital application support ticketing system to evaluate application requests and issues.
  • Ensure data protection throughout the development and operations processes.
  • Update disaster recovery/ business continuity plan (DR/BCP) documentation relevant to development and application operations.
  • Keep source tree and other development data assets updated and accurate.
  • Maintain effective communication with staff and clients through direct interactions to facilitate system setups or issue resolution.
  • Provide procedural documentation and relevant reports.
  • Support the deployment of new company applications.
  • Complete tasks diligently until accomplished or referred elsewhere, if necessary.
  • Establish strong working relationships with clinical service providers, internal customers, and software developers.
  • Test and evaluate new technologies.
  • Ensure uptime requirements of all company medical applications.
  • Operate effectively with strong communication skills.

Accountability

  • The HIS Senior Developer will report to the HIS Lead Developer.

Educational Responsibilities

  • Bachelor of Science in Information Technology or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Software Development, Computer Engineering, or equivalent certifications.
  • At least five (5) years as a developer with frameworks such as .NET, C#, C/C++, and SQL databases.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience developing modern UIs using HTML 5, Angular, and Typescript.
  • Proficient knowledge of Operating Systems, including Windows Server (2003 and later), Virtualization (VMWare, Hyper-V), and UNIX/Linux Operating Systems.
  • Understanding of Unix Operating systems and experience in developing on Unix platforms.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Cayman DPL (Data Protection Law), HIPAA, GDPR laws and regulations.

Other Beneficiary Experience

  • Familiarity with open-source development platforms.
  • Experience with the Joint Commission International Accreditation process is an advantage.
  • Development experience with industry-certified clinical systems (Cerner, EPIC, Meditech, ECW, MedWorxs, or equivalent) is highly desirable.

Travel

  • No overseas travel expected. Local travel to other facilities is expected semi-regularly.
