We are hiring an Information Systems Architect to define best practices in infrastructure as code at a global scale.

The Information Systems (IS) team is responsible for all IT operations at Canonical, encompassing the infrastructure for building, packaging, and distributing Ubuntu globally. As the IS Architect, you will own the design of hardware and software implementations, influencing the user experience for millions of Ubuntu users.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define, gain buy-in, and implement a holistic vision of a world-class internal cloud.
  • Maintain and update the technical design roadmap for the SREs within IS to improve reliability and scalability.
  • Collaborate with cloud-ops software development teams for roadmap input and priorities.
  • Lead technological choices to implement solutions as self-service products.
  • Work with security teams on best practices to mitigate threats.
  • Automate operations for reuse across large companies with complex distributed systems.
  • Analyze incidents to identify structural improvements.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic background, with a technical undergraduate degree or a compelling narrative of alternative experience.
  • Confidence to exchange feedback and share ideas.
  • Track record of achieving outstanding results.
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and Linux networking.
  • Experience with production outages and incident response.
  • Passion for writing and maintaining enterprise open-source software solutions.
  • Clear and effective communication skills in English.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Modern software engineering practices, including Agile methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience managing large-scale enterprise Linux servers.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a home-based position with travel to company events twice a year (approximately 4 weeks in total).
