The Information Systems (IS) team is responsible for all IT operations at the company, including the infrastructure for building, packaging, and distributing Ubuntu globally. As the IS Architect, you will own the design of hardware and software implementations, impacting how the company's engineers engage with compute and network resources in a DevOps environment.
Main responsibilities will include:
- Defining and implementing a holistic vision for a world-class internal cloud
- Setting and updating technical design roadmaps and guidelines for System Reliability Engineers (SREs) to enhance reliability, resilience, and scalability
- Collaborating with cloud-ops software development teams to build a highly standardized and automated operation
- Advising management on technology and reliability issues
- Leading technical decisions for self-service product solutions
- Working with security teams to establish best practices and mitigate new threats
- Automating operations for large, distributed systems
- Analyzing incidents and driving structural improvements to minimize recurrence
Location:
Jiddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia (Remote)
Work Conditions:
- Full-time
- Remote position with twice-annual travel to company events totaling around 4 weeks per year
- This role will be based remotely in the EMEA region
Language Requirements:
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English (email, chat, video, voice calls, and in person)
What We Are Looking For:
- Exceptional academic track record from high school and university
- Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling alternative path
- Confidence to exchange feedback and share ideas
- Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies
- Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls
- Experience in handling significant production outages and postmortems
- A passion for writing and maintaining enterprise open-source software
- Familiarity and enthusiasm for open-source, particularly Ubuntu or Debian
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Modern software engineering background (peer-review, unit testing, SCM, CI/CD, Agile)
- Hands-on experience with the automatic administration of enterprise Linux servers at scale
