The Information Systems (IS) team is responsible for all IT operations at Canonical, including the infrastructure for building, packaging, and distributing Ubuntu globally. In this position, you will own the design of hardware and software implementation, impacting the user experience for millions. You'll lead System Reliability Engineers (SRE) and Data Center Engineers (DCE) to embrace best practices, providing guidance on technology choices for cloud infrastructure and services, and coaching the IS team on automation, reliability, operational scalability, network infrastructure, and security.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and implement a holistic vision for a world-class internal cloud.
  • Maintain and update the technical design roadmap and guidelines for the SREs within IS.
  • Collaborate with cloud-ops software development teams to build a highly standardized and automated operation.
  • Provide management input on technology, reliability, resilience, and business cases.
  • Lead technical choices and implement solutions as self-service products.
  • Collaborate with product and operations security to set best practices.
  • Automate operations for reuse across large companies and design service architecture.
  • Analyze incidents and events to establish structural improvements.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Exceptional academic track record from high school and university.
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about your alternative chosen path.
  • Confidence to share ideas and give feedback.
  • Track record of exceeding expectations.
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and operations.
  • Practical knowledge of Linux networking and large-scale networking.
  • Experience with production outages and incident response.
  • Passion for open-source software, preferably Ubuntu or Debian.

Language Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English (email, chat, video, and in-person).
