Responsibilities
Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems are critical to the safe and efficient execution of offshore installation operations. They enable vessels to maintain their position and heading under the effects of wind, waves, and currents while carrying out complex marine activities.
As part of this internship, you will contribute to the development of an advanced simulation model that replicates the behavior and performance of the Dynamic Positioning system used on the company's installation vessels. Working closely with installation and marine engineers, you will:

  • Develop a dynamic numerical model of the vessel's DP system, including vessel response, environmental loads, and control logic;
  • Integrate the model into the industry-leading offshore simulation software OrcaFlex;
  • Develop custom functionalities and automation features to enhance modeling capabilities and engineering workflows;
  • Design and implement a user-friendly interface to simplify model configuration, execution, and result interpretation;
  • Participate in model verification and validation activities using engineering analyses and operational feedback.
    In addition to the technical development, you will support the deployment of the solution by:
  • Preparing user guides and technical documentation;
  • Developing training material and conducting demonstration sessions for future users;
  • Collecting feedback from engineers and supporting continuous improvement of the tool.
    This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the digitalization of offshore engineering practices while gaining hands-on experience in marine operations, dynamic simulation, software development, and engineering tool deployment.
    What You Will Gain
    This internship provides a unique combination of engineering, simulation, and software development experience within the offshore energy industry. You will have the opportunity to:
  • Gain hands-on experience with advanced offshore simulation tools;
  • Develop practical Python programming skills applied to real engineering challenges;
  • Understand the fundamentals of offshore installation engineering and marine operations;
  • Work on the digitalization of engineering processes within a global energy company;
  • Strengthen your analytical and problem-solving capabilities through complex technical challenges;
  • Collaborate with experienced engineers from multiple disciplines;
  • Contribute to innovative solutions supporting both Renewable Energy and Oil & Gas projects.
    Education
    We are looking for a Master's-level engineering student with a strong interest in complex engineering projects and offshore operations.
    Preferred background:
  • Mechanical Engineering;
  • Naval Architecture / Hydrodynamics;
  • Ocean Engineering;
  • Data Science or Applied Mathematics.
    Required competencies:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities;
  • Interest in multidisciplinary engineering environments;
  • Ability to understand and integrate various engineering disciplines into a global operational vision;
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
    Additional assets:
  • Programming skills, particularly in Python;
  • Interest in data analysis and engineering digitalization tools.
