Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with a globally distributed team.
- Learn from senior mentors to understand the Linux kernel's inner workings and its distribution.
- Work with external silicon, cloud, or hardware manufacturers on cutting-edge platforms.
- Diagnose and resolve kernel issues reported by customers and the community.
- Take responsibility for delivering various flavors of the Ubuntu Linux kernel.
- Improve tools and automation for the delivery and testing of Ubuntu Linux kernels.
- Submit, review, and apply kernel patches, collaborating with both internal and external maintainers.
Requirements:
- Well-organized and motivated self-starter who thrives in a remote work environment.
- Professional demeanor towards colleagues and the open-source community.
- Proficient in English, both written and verbal.
- Programming experience in C and/or Rust.
- Familiarity with version control practices, ideally with git.
- Understanding of operating system kernel fundamentals.
- Willingness to travel globally twice a year for company engineering events.
Preferred Skills:
- Interest and experience in Rust.
- Programming abilities in Python and Bash scripting.
- Prior experience with Ubuntu/Debian/Snap packaging.
- Experience in kernel patching and debugging.
- Strong understanding of device drivers and low-level system engineering.
