Quantitative Research serves as the scientific engine within the Trading function, responsible for developing, validating, and maintaining models that help understand client trading behaviors, flow dynamics, and the financial outcomes of pricing and risk management processes. The insights generated by this team influence critical pricing, risk, and routing decisions, while maintaining a clear independence in its analytical approaches. The Junior Quantitative Analyst plays an integral role in supporting senior researchers, contributing to live research projects that leverage production data directly impacting business decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze trade, quote, and client datasets to characterize client behavior, flow quality, and execution outcomes.
  • Build and back-test classification and signal models under supervision, including conducting tests designed to identify potential failures of the models.
  • Perform validation and robustness assessments on existing models, examining their stability over time, sensitivity to assumptions, and performance under stressed market conditions.
  • Investigate anomalies in the data, distinguishing between genuine shifts in market or client behavior and defects related to data or code.
  • Contribute to the establishment of data quality standards across various sources, ensuring completeness, appropriate refresh intervals, and definitional consistency.
  • Document findings clearly for audiences without a quantitative background, explicitly conveying the implications of the analysis.

Skills and Competencies

  • Hold a quantitative degree in fields such as mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science, engineering, quantitative finance, or a related discipline.
  • Proficient in Python for data analysis and SQL for querying large datasets; familiarity with compiled languages is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of applied statistics, including hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and time series; with the ability to discern when results may be influenced by noise.
  • Develop a working interest in market microstructure and broker economics, deepening knowledge through practical experience.
  • Exhibit intellectual honesty by clearly differentiating between certainty, inference, and assumptions in analyses communicated to different audiences.
  • Demonstrate clear written communication skills.
