We are looking to hire a Junior Research Scientist or Engineer to help design and build novel systems and tools for decision-making support. The lab examines data and decision-making from a tooling and systems-building perspective. A successful candidate should be able to design and implement systems and tools, as well as demonstrate their efficacy through comparative performance evaluations or user studies. They should be comfortable working independently or as part of a team, depending on the project's scope. As all our code and data artifacts are publicly shared, good coding and reproducible experimentation practices are essential.
Frequent meetings for short status updates and regular technical one-on-ones are held to dive deep into research problems. Successful RAs or REs present their work, progress, and challenges concisely and clearly. Candidates should be keen about publishing their work and findings, striving to meet deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement systems and tools for decision-making support.
- Conduct comparative performance evaluations or user studies to measure efficacy.
- Collaborate with team members while also demonstrating the ability to work independently.
- Maintain best practices in coding and reproducibility in research.
- Present work, progress, and challenges clearly during meetings.
- Pursue publication of research findings.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or a master's degree with less than 5 years of research experience in a relevant field.
- Experience in systems or tool building, algorithmic thinking, and research.
- Proficiency in Python, C++, and other programming frameworks is required.
- Familiarity with declarative programming, SQL, and data management is highly desirable.
- Advanced coursework or projects in systems, HCI, or AI/ML are also desirable.
