The eBRAIN Lab in the Division of Engineering at the company is seeking applications for a Junior Research Scientist position. This role is aimed at candidates with less than 5 years of experience holding a Bachelor's or Master’s degree, focusing on research and development (R&D) of next-generation Edge-AI and Embodied-AI systems, specifically with tiny-LLMs, tiny-VLMs, tiny-VLAs, Agentic-AI systems, and robust Generative AI solutions targeting hallucination, safety, and security issues. A critical objective is to ensure robust systems are also optimized for high performance and energy-efficiency, enabling efficient Embodied/Edge-AI implementations.

Candidates will investigate novel methods and their applications across various real-world sectors, including autonomous systems, healthcare, and robotics, with a focus on cross-validation.

The eBRAIN Lab, under the guidance of Prof. Shafique, has extensive experience in R&D for energy-efficient and robust brain-inspired, autonomous, and cognitive systems, along with intelligent vision systems. The lab's work encompasses efficient learning and inference of complex AI/ML algorithms, specialized neural processing hardware, and ML security applications in resource-constrained Embodied-AI settings, such as autonomous vehicles, UAVs/UGVs, Robotics, smart homes/cities, wearables, and healthcare technologies.

The successful candidates will engage in various exciting projects that involve:

  • Designing, implementing, optimizing, prototyping, and testing innovative solutions (software, hardware, or both).
  • Focusing on full-system prototyping, IP generation, patenting, and contributing to high-quality publications with leading researchers in the lab.
  • Developing highly efficient solutions tailored for real-world applications, aiming for TRL-4/5 prototypes and active optimization of engineered solutions.
  • Collaborating within a multidisciplinary environment alongside PhD-level scientists, research engineers, graduate, and undergraduate students to explore cutting-edge scientific methodologies while developing full-system prototypes.

The eBRAIN lab provides an excellent working environment with an international team of leading researchers and engineers as well as high-tech equipment and active R&D initiatives, offering numerous development possibilities.

Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive and sound knowledge in Robotics, ML, AI, DNN, LLMs/VLMs, Multimodal LLMs, RAG, Agentic frameworks, tinyML, ML frameworks (such as PyTorch and TensorFlow), and prototyping ML systems.
  • Practical experience in AI/ML system development and hands-on engineering work on intelligent systems, along with system-level optimizations.
  • Additional knowledge of MLOps, robust/secure computing, hallucinations and alignment, privacy-preserving ML, and ML security is desirable.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with industrial experience, engineering experience, and/or publications in top ML venues (conferences and journals).
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and writing skills as well as a high motivation for prototyping and research in practical ML/AI systems.

Benefits

The terms of employment for this position include:

  • Competitive salary and attractive benefits, such as a generous housing allowance, medical insurance with access to world-class facilities, annual home leave allowance, and if applicable, dependent private school fees.
  • Salaries are tax-free in the UAE, with the possibility to utilize the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion for any applicable US tax obligations.
  • Dedicated funds for travel, computing, publication, and access to excellent world-class research facilities.

Contract and Schedule

The preferred starting date is October 2026, depending on the processing steps. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be reviewed starting from 03 Aug 2026 until the position is filled.
