As a Junior Ubuntu Software Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on various projects, including:

  • Development of foundational systems software and applications in Rust, Go, Flutter, and Python
  • Integration of open source from boot firmware to cloud application deployment
  • Packaging and shipping software via Debian and Snap
  • Maintenance and evolution of a Linux distribution and its repositories

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and ship software
  • Package, integrate, test, and upload open source software to Ubuntu repositories
  • Debug issues and deliver robust solutions
  • Author and improve technical and community documentation
  • Contribute to upstream and neighboring open source projects
  • Collaborate with a globally distributed team
  • Continuously learn and enhance technical and professional skills

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic track record from high school and university
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a STEM field, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path
  • Drive to exceed expectations and a passion for open source software
  • Experience with Rust, Go, Python, Flutter, or C/C++
  • Professional written and spoken English
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events up to two weeks

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Familiarity with Linux distributions
  • Knowledge of system debugging tools and techniques
  • Experience with automation tooling and CI/CD systems
  • Contributions to open source projects
