Lead Backend Engineer - PayLink

Join a dynamic team as a hands-on engineering lead, where you will set the technical direction, ensure code quality, and build payment-critical backend services using a modern Java stack. You will play a crucial role in guiding and growing a team of backend engineers, while collaborating closely with architecture and product teams.

What You'll Do

• Provide hands-on technical leadership for backend engineering on a modern Java / Spring Boot stack.
• Design and build payment-critical backend services and APIs.
• Own code quality, including standards, code review, testing, and release readiness.
• Ensure correctness, reliability, and security across the services owned by the team.
• Mentor and grow backend engineers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in Java backend development with a strong focus on Spring Boot.
• Proven technical leadership skills while remaining hands-on in coding tasks.
• Must have hands-on experience in payments or fintech, specifically on real payment or financial-transaction systems.
• Experience with at least one payment processor or gateway (e.g., MPGS, Cybersource, or mada) is a requirement for this role.
• Strong knowledge and experience in microservices, REST API design, relational databases, and automated testing.
• Experience with delivery on containers (Kubernetes) and CI/CD practices.
• Familiarity with AI-augmented engineering; the ability to actively use AI coding tools such as Claude Code in day-to-day development is a requirement for this role.

Nice to Have

• Experience with more than one payment processor or gateway.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (OCI, AWS, or Azure) and experience with event-driven systems (Kafka).
