Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in groundbreaking enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are seeking a Lead Data Governance Engineer focused on implementing data governance policies, processes, standards, and monitoring in compliance with internal policies and applicable regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR, DPA, ISO). The successful candidate will develop Python-based tools to automate operations of an internal data mesh solution, focusing on data labeling, quality metrics, access management, and data security best practices.

The Data Governance team in the Commercial Systems unit aims to enable secure and well-governed access to comprehensive data sets from various internal and external sources formed in a data mesh.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define, monitor, and execute data governance policies.
  • Design, implement, and maintain tooling for automated data mesh operations.
  • Deploy and operate services developed by the team.
  • Depending on seniority, coach and mentor team members, offering career development feedback.
  • Develop and promote effective engineering and organizational practices.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional academic record from high school and university.
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical field or a compelling alternative career path narrative.
  • Track record of exceeding expectations and achieving outstanding results.
  • Experience with data quality, governance, and security processes and tools.
  • Proficient in software development using Python and SQL.
  • Professional written and spoken English, with excellent presentation skills.
  • Results-oriented with a strong commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events lasting up to two weeks.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Performance engineering and security experience.
  • Familiarity with Airbyte, Ranger, Superset, Temporal, or Trino.

Work Conditions:

  • Remote work environment with twice-yearly team sprints in person.
  • Must be able to travel internationally.
