About the Role
As a Lead Design Engineer, you will act as a technical liaison with Aircraft, Engines, and/or Component Manufacturers, along with internal stakeholders. Your task involves providing appropriate technical support and expertise in disruption scenarios, including handling technical/AOG situations, troubleshooting, and addressing aircraft faults/defects. You will also be responsible for developing, designing, and integrating engineering solutions to support aircraft electrical and avionics modifications. These modifications may include, but are not limited to, avionics system upgrades such as navigation systems, electrical generation systems, and communication systems on Airbus and Boeing fleets.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clear, effective, concise, and technically accurate solutions (troubleshooting, major/minor repair solutions, dispensations, and concessions) for defects arising from maintenance or per customer requests.
  • Evaluate aircraft avionics systems and component/parts damages, providing solutions for discrepancies that exceed the applicable manual limitations.
  • Analyze defect reports to establish root causes.
  • Submit comprehensive defect reports with repair/deviation proposals to manufacturers for approval.
  • Ensure that the technical solutions (repairs/deviations) are developed and approved in accordance with the organization's procedures and comply with applicable regulation privileges of P145 or within the scope of P21J DOA.
  • Evaluate the use of alternative tooling.
  • Provide stage instructions for customer modification requests (SB, VSB, STC, etc.).
  • Possess knowledge of certification requirements of EASA Part 21J and relevant sections of airworthiness requirements.
  • Review and understand customer work requests, transforming them into design work that can be implemented on aircraft while considering all relevant certification requirements as applicable to the aircraft type.
  • Initiate engineering authorizations to perform minor and major avionics repairs and modifications on aircraft.
  • Demonstrate experience in compliance verification processes concerning all airworthiness aspects (CS/JAR/FAR, OSD, affected publications/ICA, latest regulations).
  • Initiate plans and develop specifications involving basic design data, technical modifications, and installations, writing modification procedures in areas such as aircraft electrical power, communication, navigation, auto-flight, and instrumentation systems.
  • Prepare technical drawings (such as wiring diagrams, wiring installations, and harness build-up diagrams) as required.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers during the design phase and product selection.

Qualifications

  • B.Sc. Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Avionics, or Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years in related aircraft avionics/electrical systems engineering (Part 145, Part M, and Part 21).
  • Knowledgeable in ATA sections related to aircraft avionics and electrical systems – A/C Type Level 3 training preferred.
  • Existing or previous Compliance Verification Engineer approval is an added advantage.
  • Strong background and skills in aircraft repairs, modification, retrofit development, troubleshooting, and AOG support.
  • Experience with OEM, Airline, or MRO with DOA approval with Major or Minor privileges.
  • Experience in developing, designing, and integrating engineering solutions to support aircraft electrical and avionics modifications.
  • Good writing and communication skills.
