The Substation Automation Engineer with Cyber Security Specialization is responsible for executing substation automation system engineering activities for assigned projects, ensuring adherence to quality, cost, and delivery timelines. The role requires planning design activities, managing project design budgets, supervising all engineering functions required for project execution, and maintaining technical compliance with project specifications. Additionally, the engineer will focus on cyber security design, configuration, implementation, assurance, and training within their designated cluster.

Key Responsibilities
As part of Technical Tendering
- Estimate man-days (MD) for design activities during the Inquiry to Order (ITO) stage.
- Collaborate closely with the ITO team to prepare for new opportunities and negotiations, including conducting site surveys and prequalification support.
- Review RFQs that impact Cyber Security, providing recommendations and clarifications per customer specifications and company capabilities/products.
- Propose appropriate cyber security solutions based on customer specifications, ensuring compatibility with core systems.
- Generate architecture references for ITO proposals requiring Cyber Security.
- Create Security Assurance Plans (SAP) for projects that necessitate them, discussing these with relevant teams and customers.
- Design BOM templates for Cyber security devices with a standardized format across GA.
- Develop templates for estimating costs related to cyber security implementation, covering parts, labor, and testing.
- Prepare Deliverables of Requirements (DOR) for cybersecurity project execution by internal and external stakeholders.
As part of Execution
- Ensure EHS compliance and implement the Zero Deviation Plan, setting an example for the team.
- Control man-days (MD) for design activities during the Order to Remittance (OTR) stage.
- Work with a multidisciplinary team to specify and design projects, adhering to all technical standards.
- Prepare all necessary production documentation for panel integration and ensure timely design delivery to stakeholders.
- Participate in cost reduction initiatives through standardization and innovative approaches.
- Approve technical evaluations from suppliers and support Procurement during negotiations for POs and post-order stages.
- Assist site organization during preparation and commissioning stages and ensure compliance with quality procedures.
- Engage during factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) preparation and conduct customer FAT to ensure project delivery success.
- Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews in accordance with project strategies and procedures.
- Resolve design issues and validate the design throughout customer acceptance, ensuring consistency in engineering documents.
- Analyze customer technical requirements and ensure compliance through thorough documentation and communication.
- Effectively communicate with customers to foster relationships and deliver excellent service.
- Develop Functional Design Specifications (FDS) for cyber security systems, ensuring cohesiveness in the overall design.
- Conduct FAT and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for Cyber Security, detailing testing procedures.
- Configure cyber security devices, including switches, hubs, servers, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems.
- Create and execute a cyber security assurance and maintenance plan for the installed base.
- Ensure alignment with core system teams throughout the implementation and testing of cybersecurity.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in substation automation projects and operational technology (OT) security.
- Experience with security designs and network topology best practices for OT.
- Capability to prepare design documents and configurations for substation automation and conduct FAT.
- Strong knowledge of OT protocols and security technologies, including LDAP, RADIUS, SSH, SFTP, HTTPS, and encryption standards.
- Familiarity with cyber security standards and regulations applicable to the utilities industry (e.g., IEC 62443, NERC CIP).
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time for missions, project support, customer meetings, and marketing.
Desired Characteristics
- Familiarity with competitor products is advantageous.
- Experience with company DS Agile, GPG, or similar Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
- Ability to present technical solutions to customers and identify potential solutions to issues.
- Skilled at collaborating effectively across functions in a global environment.
- Cyber security certification (e.g., ISA, ISC2, SANS, ISACA, CISSP) is a plus.
- Ability to provide training for internal teams, customers, and suppliers.
- Experience with telecommunications and network equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.) and intrusion detection systems.
- Strong customer service mindset and interpersonal skills.
- Keeping abreast of the latest developments in cyber security.
- Ability to work proactively and manage time effectively under pressure.
