The role is within the Commercial Systems unit, which comprises several engineering teams that collaborate closely with other engineering and business teams. The services designed and operated by these teams are central to Canonical's business, with Golang playing a crucial role. Key areas include:
- Billing Team: Develops a Golang service for standardized, scalable billing based on metrics and integrates with various systems.
- Contracts Team: Creates a service serving as the single source of truth for customer contracts, integrating with CRM and accounting systems.
- Livepatch Team: Works on delivering Linux kernel patches to enhance security by reducing the exploit window.
- Ubuntu Pro Backend Team: Designs backend services for Ubuntu Pro, focusing on security and operational reliability.
Responsibilities:
- Develop engineering solutions leveraging Golang
- Lead technical designs, code reviews, and implementations
- Deploy and operate services developed by the team
- Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback
Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in a technical field or demonstrable alternative path
- Proven experience in software development using Golang
- Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
- Strong personal drive and commitment to results
- Ability to travel internationally twice a year, for company events lasting up to two weeks
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience in performance engineering and security
- Exposure to accounting, sales, or business operations
