The Canonical Kernel Team is seeking exceptionally talented technology experts to lead the architecture, implementation, and delivery of the Ubuntu Linux kernel. Responsibilities include driving engagements with key Silicon and Cloud partners, mitigating vulnerabilities and driving hardening efforts in the kernel, architecting enhancements to improve performance and reliability, streamlining packaging and distribution for a better end-user experience, and developing scalable solutions to meet strict quality standards.

Location: Jiddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia (Remote)

Work Conditions: Full-time, remote work environment with the requirement to travel internationally at least twice a year for company events lasting up to two weeks.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Expert understanding of the C programming language.
  • Experience in a *nix-based operating system kernel and distribution.
  • Python and Bash scripting ability.
  • Proficient with the git version control system.
  • Prior experience developing with software packaging formats, specifically Ubuntu/Debian/Snap.
  • Ability to thrive in a remote work environment and lead teams.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Background in RTOS and real-time performance analysis.
  • Experience with kernel patching and debugging.
  • Knowledge of device drivers, BSPs, and low-level system engineering.
  • Familiarity with Rust, especially in relation to the Linux kernel.
