In this role as a Lead Software Engineer, you will oversee major workstreams within the Opus platform, with full accountability from architecture through to production deployment. You will lead a cross-functional team of about four engineers across backend and frontend disciplines, while remaining hands-on in the design, development, and review of complex backend systems. This position is approximately 70% technical and 30% leadership, ideal for an engineer who wishes to stay close to code while effectively managing a team.
Qualifications:
- 8–10+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong background in backend and distributed systems development.
- Deep expertise in Python and proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js (NestJS, Next.js) is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of systems design principles, including distributed architectures and API design.
- Experience with SQL (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis) databases.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead technical delivery of platform workstreams from requirements through to deployment and post-release iteration.
- Design and build scalable Python microservices and implement high-performance REST APIs.
- Establish and uphold standards for code quality, testing, and documentation.
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
- Stay current with advances in backend engineering and evaluate new technologies to improve platform quality.
