Lead, Transformation Testing

About the Role:
This Testing role is responsible for providing technical leadership and ensuring the successful implementation of the Testing horizontal stream of the Transformation program. This position involves assessing and executing a comprehensive testing strategy that includes both manual and automated testing processes. The Testing Lead will review the existing design and implement a robust automated testing framework, ensure the SI configures appropriate testing tools, and will oversee the creation of detailed test plans and scripts and their execution. This role requires strong leadership to guide the testing team, manage resources, and maintain high standards of quality assurance through rigorous validation and continuous improvement practices. The Testing Lead will work closely with other functional business and tech leads, stakeholders, and end-users to ensure the SAP system meets all technical and business requirements through the various phases of Testing. This role will align with functional technology streams in the program to ensure that the requirements of each functional area are effectively captured in this stream’s scope, and to ensure that dependencies required of functional streams are well managed into Testing. This role requires knowledge of SAP and enterprise systems, strong leadership capabilities, and excellent communication skills to work with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and vendors.

What You'll Be Doing:

Technical Skills and Experience
All of the below are assumed to be in collaboration/cooperation with the System Integrator:

Testing Strategy Development:

• Develop and define the overall testing strategy for the SAP transformation programme, ensuring alignment with project objectives and timelines.
• Design and implement a robust automated testing framework tailored to the SAP system’s specific requirements.

Automation Strategy and Implementation:

• Develop a comprehensive automation strategy that outlines the scope of automation, including which tests to automate based on risk and frequency.
• Lead the transition from manual to automated testing processes, ensuring seamless integration and minimal disruption.

Test Planning & Management:

• Create comprehensive test plans that cover all phases of testing including unit testing, integration testing, system testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT). Plan and schedule all test activities across different stages of the project lifecycle.
• Manage resources, timelines, and budgets allocated for testing activities to ensure effective test coverage.

Test Case Development:

• Oversee the development and maintenance of detailed test cases and test scripts based on business requirements and technical specifications.
• Oversee the development of automated test scripts that are maintainable, reusable, and effective.
• Ensure that test cases cover all functional and non-functional requirements of the SAP system.
• Regularly review and update test scripts to accommodate changes in system requirements and functionality.

Team Leadership & Coordination:

• Train testing team members on the use of automated testing tools and the maintenance of test scripts.
• Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement, encouraging team members to enhance their automation skills. Lead and mentor the testing team, providing technical guidance and support as needed.
• Engage with functional tech leads, business leads and business stakeholders to gather feedback during testing phases and ensure the SAP system meets business needs and expectations.
• Facilitate testing rounds, ensuring effective participation and feedback from end-users.

Test Execution & Monitoring:

• Manage the execution of test cases, monitor the testing process, and ensure adherence to established timelines and standards.
• Identify and resolve testing bottlenecks or delays, ensuring efficient progress of testing activities.
• Coordinate with other project leads (e.g., Data Migration Lead, Integration Lead) to ensure integration points and dependencies are appropriately tested.

Issue Management:

• Track and manage defects identified during testing, prioritizing issues based on severity and impact on the project.
• Work closely with development teams to ensure timely resolution of issues and re-testing of solutions.

Performance and Load Testing:

• Utilize the automated testing framework for performance and load testing, ensuring the SAP system can handle projected transaction volumes and user loads.
• Analyse performance test results and make recommendations for system enhancements and optimizations.

Continuous Testing Integration:

• Integrate automated tests into the continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline to ensure ongoing system integrity.
• Monitor the effectiveness of automated testing within the CI/CD pipeline and make adjustments as necessary.

Reporting & Documentation:

• Provide regular updates and reports to project stakeholders regarding test progress, results, and issues.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of testing processes, outcomes, and lessons learned.
• Develop quality metrics to measure the effectiveness of automated testing and identify areas for improvement.
• Provide detailed reports on automation coverage, defect detection rates, and other relevant metrics to stakeholders.

Post-Implementation Support:

• Oversee post-implementation testing to ensure the SAP system operates as expected in the live environment.
• Provide ongoing support and guidance during the stabilization period after go-live.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Technical Skills:

• Strong understanding of business processes and how they are supported by SAP systems.
• Experience working with SAP and enterprise systems is mandatory, in design, deployment, testing and support.
• Experience managing large hybrid teams comprised of internal and external resources.
• Experience managing external vendors to a budget/target and ensuring close scope management.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in SAP technology implementation and management.
• Proven experience as a technical lead or similar role in large-scale transformation programs.

Education and Professional Certification:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, ITIL, SAP certifications) is a plus.
