Key Accountabilities
Legal Commercial & Operations Responsibilities
The position involves the provision of legal advice and support relating to:
- Agreements, documents, projects, and investment transactions for Business Line Directorates (BLDs), Business Support Directorates (BSDs), and Business Support Functions (BSFs) supported by Legal Commercial & Operations.
- General commercial contracts, employment law, health/medical law matters, real estate, hospitality, corporate transactions, and corporate governance.
- Policies and procedures and intellectual property, projects, and related activities.
Key Components of the Role
- Provide legal counsel and advice as a Legal Business Partner to various parts of the Business.
- Offer legal support to the company Group for commercial, non-commercial, and operations-related agreements, projects, and matters.
- Instruct and supervise external legal counsel, managing performance and budget related to legal matters affecting BLDs and group companies.
- Produce legal agreements that reflect the organization's risk appetite and ensure compliance with all applicable laws.
- Prepare standard form agreements and deliver training sessions on relevant legal requirements.
Technical Expertise
- Relevant experience in providing legal advice on commercial, non-commercial, and operational related matters.
Budget Management
- Input into the development of the annual budget in alignment with the Business Unit’s objectives and operational plans.
Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures
- Develop and implement policies, processes, systems, and controls to support the execution of the Function’s work programs.
- Contribute to continuous improvements within Legal Commercial & Operations for sustained performance levels.
Performance Management
- Contribute to the achievement of Legal Commercial & Operations key performance indicators (KPIs) and objectives.
- Analyze business operations to recommend enhancements to current practices.
People Management and Development
- Foster the development of knowledge and competencies within Legal Commercial & Operations.
- Initiate training and continuous learning programs for team members, focusing on junior Emirati lawyers.
Stakeholder Management
- Assist leadership in day-to-day operations and represent Legal Commercial & Operations in task forces and committees.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and assess the performance of external legal advisors.
Risk Management
- Input into the Corporate Integrated Risk Management System within the Business Unit.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
- Promote a culture of innovation within the organization and recommend improvements in internal processes.
Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) and Sustainability
- Support the implementation of an HSE culture and comply with relevant policies and sustainability guidelines.
Management Information Systems (MIS) and Reports
- Contribute to Business Unit MIS and deliver progress reports for effective management of operations.
Communications & Working Relationships
Internal
- Interact with the company's cross-functional management teams and Legal, Governance, and Compliance leadership.
- Maintain contacts with legal advisors and counterparts of Business customers across the company Group.
External
- Engage with external lawyers, governmental institutions, suppliers, and business partners.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in law.
Minimum Experience & Skills
- 5 years of post-qualification experience in transactional work, preferably within the energy or technology industry.
- Excellent proficiency in English (written and spoken); fluency in Arabic is advantageous.
- Knowledge of applicable legislations, international best practices, and a strong background in various commercial areas.
Professional Certifications
- Must be a qualified lawyer in a civil and/or common law jurisdiction.
