Position

We support a large and rapidly growing kernel team responsible for all supported Ubuntu Linux kernels across a wide range of hardware and use cases. The team prioritizes hardware and virtualization enablement, security, reliability, and performance. Key projects include kernel benchmarking, optimized kernels for key silicon and cloud partners, kernel Livepatch, FIPS compliance, virtualization engines, and security measures. We welcome candidates from all experience levels, from recent graduates to seasoned experts, who are eager to work in multiple areas including security mitigation and feature development.

Work Conditions:

  • Fully remote work arrangement with a globally distributed team.
  • Occasional travel (twice a year) for company engineering events lasting up to two weeks each.
  • Flexible working hours, collaborating with a team across various time zones.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a globally distributed team and external partners on cutting-edge platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve kernel issues reported by customers and the community.
  • Deliver and improve the Ubuntu Linux kernel.
  • Improve delivery and testing tools for Ubuntu Linux kernels.
  • Submit and review kernel patches in collaboration with maintainers.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Significant programming experience in C, with additional experience in Python, Golang, or similar languages.
  • Familiarity with operating system kernel internals (experience with Linux is preferred).
  • Strong understanding of git and experience with Debian or Ubuntu.
  • Proficient in professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
  • Must be willing to travel for company events.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Knowledge of device drivers, low-level system engineering, and Linux kernel upstream processes.
  • Experience with software packaging formats and public involvement with open source projects.

Language Requirements:

  • Professional written and spoken English is essential.
