We are seeking a passionate systems software engineer to join our Ubuntu Release Engineering team. This role will focus on software quality, automation, testing capabilities, and driving excellence within our products.

As an Ubuntu Release Engineer, you will monitor quality indicators, troubleshoot issues across Ubuntu products, enhance continuous integration processes, and develop automated test cases. Collaborating with various teams, you will ensure the overall quality of Ubuntu and contribute to identifying areas for improvement.

Work Conditions:

  • Remote work with international travel required twice a year for team events lasting up to two weeks.
  • Distributed work environment with a focus on collaboration and strategy alignment through periodic in-person meet-ups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor quality across the Ubuntu ecosystem and products.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in Ubuntu Desktop, Server, and Core.
  • Enhance continuous integration for Ubuntu image, release, and package quality.
  • Report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and analytical insights.
  • Develop and automate test cases, from unit tests to end-to-end workloads.

Requirements:

  • Strong background in software engineering, Linux, and open-source technologies.
  • Proficiency in Python and Shell scripting; experience with C/C++ is a plus.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Familiarity with quality processes and continuous integration tools.
  • Experience in an agile development environment.

Additional Skills (Preferred):

  • Experience with Debian/Ubuntu systems and understanding of Debian packaging and snaps.
