Position

Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are seeking a systems software engineer who is passionate about software quality, Ubuntu, and the open source community to join the Ubuntu Release Engineering team. In this role, you will play a vital part in expanding the set of open source packages we fully support and secure.

As an Ubuntu Release Engineer, you will focus on quality, continuous integration, and testing, working closely with teams to drive quality excellence. You will monitor indicators of quality across the Ubuntu ecosystem, troubleshoot and resolve issues, and enhance our continuous integration processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor quality indicators across Ubuntu products.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in Ubuntu Desktop, Server, and Core.
  • Enhance continuous integration to guard platform quality.
  • Report on KPIs and provide analytical insights.
  • Empower teams for better planning and constant quality improvements.
  • Develop, enhance, and automate test cases for various workloads.
  • Work from home with international travel twice a year for events lasting up to two weeks.

Requirements:

  • Strong software engineering, Linux, and open source background.
  • In-depth knowledge of Python and Shell scripting.
  • Experience with C/C++.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with quality processes and continuous integration tools.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.

Additional Skills:

  • Experience with Debian/Ubuntu-based operating systems and good understanding of Debian packaging and snaps would be advantageous.

  • Globally remote role with twice-yearly team sprints in person.
