Position

Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. We are seeking a passionate systems software engineer to join the Ubuntu Release Engineering team. The role entails expanding the number of open source packages we fully support and secure, focusing on software quality, continuous integration, and testing.

As an Ubuntu Release Engineer, you will work closely with multiple teams, including Ubuntu Desktop, Server, and Foundations, to drive quality excellence. You will monitor quality indicators, troubleshoot issues, enhance continuous integration processes, and develop automated test cases. Your work will help empower teams across the organization and contribute to the overall quality of Ubuntu.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor indicators of quality across Ubuntu products.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in Ubuntu Desktop, Server, and Core.
  • Enhance continuous integration to ensure high-quality releases.
  • Develop and automate test cases, from unit tests to end-to-end workloads.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Strong software engineering background with Linux and open source.
  • In-depth knowledge of Python and Shell scripting.
  • Experience with C/C++ and excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with quality processes and continuous integration tools.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.

Additional Skills That Would Be a Considerable Advantage:

  • Experience with Debian/Ubuntu-based operating systems and understanding of Debian packaging and snaps.

Work Conditions: Full-time, Remote with international travel twice a year for events up to two weeks long.
