Position

As a Linux System Engineer in QA, Tooling, and Automation, you will focus on software quality and continuous integration, supporting our commitment to delivering high-quality software. You will work closely with our Ubuntu Desktop, Server, and Foundations teams, drive quality excellence, enhance various test cases, and help troubleshoot and resolve issues within the Ubuntu ecosystem.

With our global remote-first approach and over 1200 colleagues in more than 75 countries, we are seeking a passionate systems software engineer to join our Ubuntu Release Engineering team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor quality indicators across Ubuntu products.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Ubuntu Desktop, Server, and Core.
  • Enhance continuous integration to ensure quality in releases.
  • Report on KPIs and provide analytical insights.
  • Develop, enhance, and automate test cases from unit tests to end-to-end multi-machine workloads.

Work Conditions:

  • This is a fully remote role with the opportunity to travel internationally twice a year for up to two weeks per event.

Requirements:

  • Strong background in software engineering, Linux, and open source.
  • In-depth knowledge of Python and Shell scripting.
  • Experience with C/C++.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with quality processes and continuous integration tools.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of Debian/Ubuntu based operating systems and understanding of Debian packaging and snaps.
