About the Role / About the Job
The post holder will be an experienced and skilled mechanical technician and supervisor undertaking a range of detailed maintenance activities on the Typhoon aircraft or aircraft components. The candidate requires an excellent understanding of the approved technical data set and must be competent to supervise personnel carrying out maintenance instructions in accordance with the organization’s regulatory framework. This role demands a distinct ability to analyze and diagnose faults in aircraft systems, equipment, and assemblies, and follow diagnostic procedures while working effectively within a team. The post holder will also provide guidance to less experienced team members in a diverse and dynamic operational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking detailed maintenance, inspection, and supervision activities on the Typhoon and its components.
  • Assuring work carried out has been completed in accordance with the work package using the relevant approved technical information.
  • Resolving faults and maintenance issues, including configuration management.
  • Completing tasked maintenance and diagnostic activities on the Typhoon aircraft or components, which may include aircraft ground handling, flight servicing, aircraft role changes, component removals, inspections, repairs, modifications, fault rectifications, replacements, and/or functional/system tests.
  • Demonstrating a flexible and proactive attitude toward carrying out responsibilities appropriate to the role and taking direction appropriately.
  • Maintaining personal task authorizations for working on aircraft or components.
  • Ensuring that maintenance is undertaken to schedule and resolving any issues, escalating as required.
  • Undertaking fault evaluation and raising ad hoc work cards for ‘found faults’ during maintenance.
  • Supervising the team to ensure that maintenance is undertaken to schedule and highlighting any issues, escalating as required. Reporting on any impact to the wider program.
  • Ensuring that staff are sufficiently competent and approved for the maintenance tasks allocated to them.
  • Undertaking support tasks within the aircraft or component maintenance facility necessary for maintaining compliance with the MOE and Functionally Mandated Procedures (FMPs), such as oversight checks and control of tooling/test equipment.
  • Providing guidance and leadership to the team, developing team members using formal assessment processes (e.g., PDRs), and supporting and sponsoring training requests, including ‘on-the-job training’.
  • Demonstrating sound and comprehensive communication and people management skills to exchange complicated information.
  • Scoping and carrying out independent and vital inspections.
  • Maintaining a personal Log Book to demonstrate currency and recency, on completion of On-the-Job Training (OJT) activities, and signing other personnel’s logbooks as appropriate within trade and skills boundaries.
  • If approved as a designated assessor, undertaking authorization and task competency approvals, and checking Pt 145 license application packs prior to submission.

Requirements

  • Completion of an Engineering Apprenticeship, ideally in Aeronautical Engineering or military equivalent apprenticeship/qualifications.
  • A minimum of City & Guilds 2675 or 2661 in Aeronautical Engineering and Maintenance or equivalent academic qualification.
  • Aircraft platform training (On aircraft requirement).
  • Broad and in-depth product knowledge/competency within own technical/subject area.
  • Awareness of team integration with others to achieve overall objectives and demonstrating an understanding of the need for continuous improvement and its application.
  • Experienced and competent leader at this level, requiring a minimum of 2 years working at Technician level before undertaking a Supervisor role.
  • Demonstrating breadth of experience, currency, and recency via a Log Book capturing skills, knowledge, and authorities for working on aircraft type or in bays.
  • Practical experience and expertise in the application of aviation safety standards and safe operating practices.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Expositions and Functionally Mandated Procedures Management training.
  • Experience with PDR training.
  • Ensure personal compliance with risk assessments, SHE policies, and procedures.
  • Training required: Typhoon Composite Flight Servicing, Typhoon Mechanical Trade ‘Q’ Course, Leadership - Foundation, Human Factors - Standard Course Specification, E&PW Awareness - Standard Course Specification, ITAR Awareness - Standard Course Specification.
  • IT literate.
  • Fire Training - Qatar GFx Specification.
