Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct supervision of all assigned Lab Analysts(s) within the FAMTL while serving as the metallurgical engineering expert.
- Review the methodologies used in developing reliability predictions and test procedures to assess their effectiveness.
- Monitor state-of-the-art technology in reliability, maintainability, and testing.
- Review and evaluate data developed from tests to isolate issues in component design, material design, and characteristics.
- Evaluate materials design and manufacturing processes to determine root causes of failures and recommend necessary changes.
- Provide technical assistance to prototyping and Fabrication Workshop teams regarding chemical composition, forging, and heat treatment problems.
- Perform mechanical testing, analyzing metallurgical aspects related to vehicle and weapons systems malfunctions.
- Advise design, modelling, and simulation teams on potential design changes impacting product quality and reliability.
- Review weapon system specifications and recommend reliability, maintainability, and test specifications for procurement contracts.
- Provide technical assistance to contracting officials on interpretation of specifications and drawings related to materials requirements.
- Consult with quality assurance personnel on definitions of criticality of defects and acceptance standards.
- Develop and enforce acceptance standards to prevent the introduction of substandard materials jeopardizing mission fulfillment or human life.
- Monitor the development of non-destructive testing methods to ensure application of the latest technological advancements.
- Review technical data packages for adequacy of requirements and provide comments.
- Specify product testing types and amounts for first article, acceptance, comparison, and special tests.
- Investigate failure reports and field complaints, analyze quality issues, and prepare corrective action recommendations.
- Calculate and report estimates of reliability and maintainability using various methodologies.
- Serve on special committees and technical working groups.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and high-value property are maintained in serviceable condition, routinely inventoried, and safeguarded.
- Develop and monitor the training of assigned Lab Analyst(s) on applicable processes.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of all company information.
- Support other members of the Engineering Department in fulfilling their roles.
- Perform other duties as required by the Senior Manager, Engineering and Director, Engineering.
Experience and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science or an associate’s degree in chemistry, physics, metallurgy, or materials engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of five to six years of experience in supervising and/or managing a team preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of material processes and experience operating failure analysis tools such as SEM, XRF, and XRD required.
- Previous military or automotive industry experience is an advantage.
- Ability to interpret technical data, drawings, and engineering documents required.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot effectively and make independent judgments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software preferred.
- Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal, required.
- Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid UAE driver’s license.
