The Consumer Mobile team develops the company app, which serves as the interface millions of users utilize to manage their finances. We prioritize not just functionality but also the overall feel of our product. The swift confirmation of trades, the dynamic experience of portfolios, and seamless navigation are pivotal to fostering trust, which is essential in the crypto space.
The opportunity
We are looking for someone who perceives design and engineering as intertwined crafts rather than separate practices. You'll be responsible for the feel of the company app, focusing on the minutiae that enhance user experience—creating trust in moments such as trade confirmations and chart loading. This role is mobile-first and utilizes a React Native codebase, employing technologies like Reanimated and Skia, with attention given to the performance balance between the JS thread and the UI thread.
- Own the motion and interaction layer of the company app, including easing, springs, gestures, transitions, haptics, and sound, covering the entire user experience from app launch to trade confirmation.
- Evolve the mobile design system, owning the components utilized by other engineers such as gesture handlers, transition primitives, animated containers, and motion tokens, as well as the standards governing them.
- Collaborate closely with product designers to challenge and elevate motion and interaction design from concept through implementation.
- Profile and optimize rendering performance, particularly on lower-end Android devices where frame drops are critical.
- Contribute to architectural decisions affecting UI responsiveness, including state management, render cycles, and data flow into the view layer.
- Raise the standards for excellence within the mobile organization through review, exemplification, and establishing patterns that facilitate best practices.
What You Bring
- A portfolio showcasing your craft, which may include a demo reel, personal site, or GitHub of interaction sketches and screen captures of your work.
- Deep fluency in React Native, with proficiency in Reanimated, strong skills in handling gesture management, and the ability to evaluate JS thread versus UI thread performance.
- A refined taste in motion, with the capacity to express opinions on easing curves and transitions.
- Excellent product judgment, with the ability to identify core problems and deliver superior solutions beyond initial specifications.
- Familiarity with AI tools that complement your workflows, enabling efficiency and allowing time to focus on craft quality.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills for effective collaboration in a globally distributed environment.
Nice to have
- Experience with React Native Skia, shader work, or custom canvas-based rendering for unusual UI designs.
- Real native development experience, with enough Swift or Kotlin knowledge to create bridge modules and understand when to utilize each platform.
- A history of contributing to motion libraries, design systems, or interaction primitives that have been widely adopted by other engineers.
- A background in visual or motion design, proficient in prototyping tools like Figma or After Effects.
- Previous experience in high-stakes product environments such as fintech, trading, or sectors where UI accuracy is critical.
