About the Role / About the Job
This position provides executive leadership and strategic direction for the Engineering and Facilities functions across several hotel properties. As a member of the Executive Committee, you will be accountable for the overall maintenance, safety, security, and asset protection of all buildings, grounds, and physical plant operations within the complex. Responsibilities include budget management, capital expenditure planning, preventive maintenance programs, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory compliance. You will develop and implement property-wide strategies that enhance guest and associate experiences while maximizing operational efficiency and financial performance. Additionally, you will ensure that all engineering operations meet brand standards and legal requirements while providing leadership during emergency situations by overseeing the response and resolution of all facility-related issues.

Candidate Profile
Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED with 6 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related professional area; technical training in HVAC-R/Electrical/Plumbing.
    OR
  • 2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related major; 4 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or a related professional area; technical training in HVAC-R/Electrical/Plumbing.

Core Work Activities
Managing Engineering Operations and Budgets

  • Work with property and regional engineering leadership teams to evaluate Engineering performance against budget and highlight areas of concern.
  • Manage the physical plant including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems as per Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Administer service contracts to support property needs.
  • Ensure the fire crew comprehends all procedures, equipment, and alarms.
  • Coach and support the engineering leadership team in managing controllable expenses.
  • Develop and manage the Engineering budget aligned with the property/brand's business strategy.
  • Oversee the execution of long-term preventive maintenance and asset protection plans.
  • Communicate a clear message regarding departmental goals to produce desired results.
  • Supervise construction projects to ensure timely completion within budget.

Maintaining Engineering Standards

  • Ensure compliance with state, local, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain property life safety systems such as fire fighting, sprinkler, and alarm systems.
  • Keep building and equipment licenses, permits, and certifications current.
  • Administer property policies fairly and consistently.

Managing Profitability

  • Manage operations to budget by reviewing operating statements and payroll progress reports.
  • Monitor and manage the payroll function and controllable expenses to meet budget goals.
  • Participate in capital expenditure goal development and manage related projects.
  • Prepare weekly and period-end P&L critiques.
  • Educate staff on the impact of department operations on overall property financial goals.

Conducting Human Resources Activities

  • Ensure employees are treated fairly and equitably, completing disciplinary procedures according to Standard and Local Operating Procedures.
  • Utilize employee feedback to address problems or concerns promptly.
  • Publicly recognize team members' contributions to celebrate successes.
  • Resolve guest problems and complaints as they arise.
  • Ensure ongoing communication within the engineering operation to enhance awareness of business objectives.
