About the Role
The Network Administrator II leads a team in various maintenance evolutions and advises military and civilian customers on Post/Camp/Station and enterprise-level information technology (IT) solutions when appropriate. The individual defines the technical and physical development of the network and assigns various tasks to keep the network running at optimum levels. This position requires advanced knowledge in LAN/WAN troubleshooting and includes various management and administrative tasks linked to the Network Administrator II (NA II) role. The position reports directly to the NOC Chief Watch Officer and involves assisting and supervising subordinate NAs and NOC subordinate sites. Responsibilities include overseeing network security checks, troubleshooting network problems, outages, and anomalies as required. The individual will be responsible for reporting all pertinent information regarding network anomalies and advising which related work centers or sites should be involved.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee maintenance and operations of VoIP phones, switches, wired and wireless routers, and encryption devices.
  • Monitor availability and reliability of LAN/WAN and Wireless Networks.
  • Implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewalls, routers, switches, and HAIPE (encryption devices).
  • Ensure outages and corrective actions are reported to the NOC service desk and NOC Watch Officer, providing updates and clarifications regarding outages.
  • Resolve customer interface/user issues.
  • Serve as VLAN administrator.
  • Configure ACL.
  • Use Spectrum and other software application tools to manage and administer the network.
  • Plan network development and expansion as needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of sub-netting, switching, and Cisco IOS, and train new NA I personnel.
  • Enforce network security procedures, including DISA STIG compliance and best security practices.
  • Provide advanced technical expertise to internal subordinate work sites and site-level NAs.
  • Perform disaster recovery operations and data backups as required.
  • Exhibit a strong understanding of firewall, VoIP, and ACL configurations.
  • Manage shift schedules, leave requests, and other personnel administrative tasks.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as required.

Qualifications

  • Security Clearance:
    • Requires an active Secret Clearance.
  • Education / Certifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology (IT) or a related field is preferred.
    • Candidates must adhere to DoD 8570.01M and maintain at least one (1) baseline certification and one (1) computing environment (CE) certification, with no dual qualifiers between the two.
    • Authorized certifications for this role include:
      • BASELINE:
        • Cisco: CCNA Security
        • Cisco: CCNP Security
        • CompTIA: CASP+ ce
        • CompTIA: CySA+ ce
        • CompTIA: Security+ ce
        • GIAC: GCED, GCIH, GICSP, GSEC
        • ISACA: CISA
        • ISC2: CISSP (or Associate), SSCP
      • COMPUTING ENVIRONMENT (CE):
        • Various Cisco certifications including CCIE, CCNA, and CCNP across various specializations.
  • Experience:
    • At least five (5) years of experience in a networking environment, with a preferred minimum of one (1) year in a Network Operations Center (NOC) or higher-tier support.
    • Experience with a customer service-oriented company is preferred.
  • Supervisory / Budgetary Responsibilities:
    • At least two (2) years of supervisory or lead experience is preferred.
    • Responsibilities include updating proprietary applications regarding employee status, reviewing training compliance, coordinating transportation for new employees, documenting performance issues, and conducting employee orientations.

Working Environment

  • The work environment will be 95% indoors and 5% outdoors, with outdoor conditions potentially exceeding 100°F. Candidates must be able to physically withstand extreme heat.
