Google is proud to boast a network that provides service to millions of Internet users around the world. The Network Engineering team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. As a member of the team, you will have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You will ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components, and responding to network connectivity issues.
The diverse challenges presented by Google's complex network require continual innovation with an evolving set of technologies. Your efforts to keep the network reliable ensure that users stay connected with the suite of applications, products, and services supplied by Google.
Responsibilities:
- Support and collaborate with Design teams, Deployment teams, Peering Negotiators, and Planners as needed to deliver end-to-end connectivity to the Google network.
- Work with Core, Transport, and Edge teams to translate common network solutions into standard and scalable BOMs and detailed design packages for execution across multiple sites, offering technical support.
- Collaborate with the NetDeploy Automation and BusOps teams to create scalable and repeatable "stateless" work packages for third-party provisioners and project coordinators.
- Generate and update documentation and implementation plans (DPKs) while providing technical leadership and guidance during deployment activities, along with maintaining records as needed.
- Execute and troubleshoot capacity workflows for edge network devices in new and existing network nodes across Google's global network.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of experience with fiber types and their application, physical fiber characteristics, and standard testing tools (e.g., OSA, BERT, OTDR).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in collaboration across multiple levels and functions.
- A passion for engaging and influencing tactical and strategic decision-making.
- Ability to communicate in English fluently, as this is a customer-facing role that interacts with local stakeholders.
