About the Job
The Network Operations Centre (NOC) Engineer is a seasoned subject matter expert responsible for monitoring and maintaining the Global IP Network as part of the Network Operations Center (NOC). This role operates as a tier 1 resource for the Global Internet Backbone, supporting transit and peering connections across a range of core and aggregation routers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Track, own, resolve, and document all associated customer and organizational backbone issues.
  • Monitor the global network using SNMP monitoring software along with various in-house tools.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve routing/physical layer issues for customers, peers, and network infrastructure.
  • Field calls and emails from customers, peers, Telcos, and inter-company organizations.
  • Interface with other operations centers for escalation and resolution of issues.
  • Plan and coordinate all maintenances that affect the IP network.
  • Perform selected maintenances on the IP network.
  • Manage vendor tickets related to hardware and software issues.
  • Oversee hardware Return Materials Authorization (RMA) disposition for the Global Network.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and fault isolation on the IP network.
  • Serve as a technical escalation point, either internally within the NOC or from customers and other business areas.
  • Provide oversight of vendor-related issues.
  • Contribute to operationalizing new devices/services/platforms, including documentation, procedures, best practices, and troubleshooting.
  • Execute traffic engineering on the relevant IP network.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Knowledge and Attributes:

  • Excellent planning, analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both internally and externally, in a timely and professional manner.
  • Seasoned background in troubleshooting OSI Layers 1, 2, and 3.
  • Knowledge of routing protocols, including BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, and LDP.
  • Critical decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skillful multitasking abilities to lead effectively during high-pressure situations.
  • Proficient in configuring and troubleshooting Cisco and Juniper routers.
  • Expertise with telco carrier testing practices.
  • Proven attention to detail and accuracy.

Academic Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

Required Experience:

  • Significant experience in network operations, preferably within a global IT organization.
  • Familiarity with Python (or similar languages) development and shell scripting is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within a global IT organization is essential.
