Plant General Manager

About the Role
The Plant General Manager is responsible for providing overall direction to the plant teams and leading all activities within the plant to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. The role focuses on the optimum utilization of resources and delivery of an uninterrupted supply of Power/Water in accordance with defined standards while fulfilling all contractual obligations to maximize revenue.

Key Accountabilities
Strategy & Plans

• Develop the plant strategy in line with the company’s Operations and Maintenance strategy for integration with other departmental strategies.
• Regularly report to management on operational and maintenance activities, challenges faced, and mitigation actions taken.
• Prepare board presentations covering financial figures, operational issues, and staffing for timely updates on plant statistics.

People Management

• Manage performance of direct and indirect reports, defining workforce requirements and recruiting alongside Human Resources for well-qualified and motivated employees.
• Set individual objectives for team members, provide feedback, and develop the team to maximize performance and engagement.
• Guide talent development initiatives, mentor and coach subordinates to foster growth and competence.

Financial Management

• Develop and monitor the Plant’s Operating Budget, ensuring timely identification and rectification of unsatisfactory performance and capitalizing on improvement opportunities.
• Understand financial metrics and contractual obligations to achieve revenue, profitability, and productivity targets.

Production Planning

• Lead the effective cascading of operational strategies into mid to short-term production plans, monitoring performance against targets to optimize resource utilization and plant efficiency.

Operations and Maintenance

• Direct plant operations and maintenance teams to meet production objectives while offering technical guidance for issue resolution and procedure modifications.
• Plan and direct changes within the plant, maintaining safety and efficiency per approved procedures.
• Ensure contractual obligations with the Project Company are continuously met.

Technical Guidance

• Oversee operations and maintenance strategies, conducting root cause analysis to correct abnormal conditions and enhance long-term reliability.

Supply Chain

• Manage inventory identification and approve purchase requisitions/orders for materials and services to ensure timely availability for plant needs.
• Supervise contractors to ensure compliance with work scope and HSSE guidelines.

SAP Implementation

• Ensure effective implementation of SAP processes to maintain system and data integrity in production planning, order processing, and material movement.

Integrated Management System Implementation

• Establish and monitor IMS objectives and ensure compliance with standards and policies.
• Provide assistance during IMS audits and work on implementing corrective actions.

Health, Safety, Security & Environment

• Ensure compliance with health, safety, security, and environmental policies and standards across the plant.

Relationship Management

• Develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, addressing critical issues to ensure seamless business operations.

Reporting

• Ensure timely preparation and delivery of all plant reports as per contractual obligations.
• Guide the preparation of progress reports for senior management for decision-making purposes.

Policies, Processes, Systems & Procedures

• Develop and ensure implementation of policies and controls across all areas of plant activity to meet legislative and procedural requirements.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify and implement economical methods for process improvements and new technologies.
• Contribute to organizational change initiatives and programs.

Related Assignments

• Perform additional duties as required by the line manager.

Communication & Working Relationships
Internal:

• Collaborate with corporate/country teams, board members, plant employees, and internal auditors.
  External:
• Build relationships with contractors, vendors, Project Company, local authorities, external auditors, and shareholders.

Qualifications, Experience, & Skills
Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  Minimum Experience:
• At least 15 years of experience managing a production plant, with operational experience in the power and water desalination sector.

• Techno-commercial expertise with contract knowledge.
• Leadership, planning, conceptual, and analytical thinking skills.
