About the Role
As an Administrator at the company Digital GIS, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and performance of our organization's databases, ensuring the smooth operation and security of our IT infrastructure, and safeguarding our organization's information assets. You will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing our SQL Server databases; ensuring data accuracy, security, and availability; and developing, implementing, and maintaining robust information security measures to protect our sensitive data and systems from threats and vulnerabilities. In addition to managing, maintaining, and optimizing our server environments, networks, and applications, we support our GIS systems and services.

Your Role
- Maintain SQL Server databases, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability.
- Develop and execute database backup and recovery procedures to safeguard critical data.
- Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies to improve efficiency.
- Ensure data integrity and consistency by implementing data validation and quality control measures.
- Provide technical support to application developers and other team members regarding database usage and best practices.
- Collaborate with the GIS team to optimize database structures and queries for efficient data management and analysis, and to deploy and maintain GIS systems and applications.
- Maintain comprehensive information security plans and policies, aligned with industry best practices and standards such as ISO 27001.
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify and mitigate security risks.
- Implement and maintain security controls, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access controls, to protect our systems and data from unauthorized access.
- Respond to security incidents and breaches, conducting thorough investigations and implementing corrective measures.
- Educate employees on security awareness and best practices to prevent security breaches and data loss.
- Stay updated on the latest security threats, vulnerabilities, and best practices, and the latest database technologies and trends to maintain a high level of expertise.
- Maintain server infrastructure, including virtualization environments (e.g., VMware, Windows Server).
- Configure and manage network devices and protocols to ensure optimal connectivity and performance.
- Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system utilities.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for hardware and software issues.
- Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies.
- Ensure system security by implementing and maintaining security measures and best practices, collaborating with the Information Security Specialist.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
- Stay updated on the latest system administration technologies and trends.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience with SQL Server database administration, information security, and system administration.
- Strong proficiency in SQL Server database design, implementation, and maintenance.
- Experience with database performance tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting. Knowledge of data warehousing and ETL processes is a plus.
- Experience with Azure RDBMS database.
- Experience with NoSQL databases is desirable.
- Experience with SAN systems and backup systems is required.
- Experience with different operating system hardening processes.
- Experience with information security software packages and tools.
- Understanding of best industry practices for Azure cloud-based security solutions.
- Strong proficiency in server administration, virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Windows Server), and networking.
- Experience with cloud-based solutions and native Azure cloud services operations.
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) for automation and configuration management.
- Experience with programming languages (e.g., GeoPandas, Shapely, Rasterio, Fiona Pandas, NumPy, SciPy) and Big Geospatial Data Processing (e.g., Apache Spark / PySpark) is a plus.
- Experience with Kubernetes and microservices architecture is a plus.
- Experience with ESRI solution installations and configuration.
- Industry-standard certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, CompTIA A+, Network+) are required.
- Strong understanding of information security principles, frameworks, and standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST Cybersecurity Framework).
- Proven ability to conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing and work closely with CICO and the ITS Team.
- Knowledge of security controls, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access controls.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
