Position

The newly established NYUAD Wireless Research Center at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate (PDA) to engage in cutting-edge research on the physical layer design of next-generation wireless communication systems, with a primary focus on 6G technologies. The research will particularly emphasize spectrum candidates beyond the current 5G NR range, including FR3 (7–24 GHz) and the THz band (100 GHz and above). The PDA will be jointly supervised by Dr. Qurrat-Ul-Ain Nadeem, Dr. Marwa Chafii, and Dr. Murat Uysal.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on the design and development of next-generation wireless communication systems, including topics such as:
    • Waveform design for the THz spectrum under hardware constraints
    • Beamforming techniques for FR3 and THz bands
    • Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS)
    • Integrated sensing and communications (ISAC)
  • Develop mathematical models for signal transmission and reception, derive fundamental performance limits, and engage in algorithmic-level system design.
  • Evaluate performance through computer simulations and/or experimental validation.
  • Actively disseminate results through publications in high-impact journals and presentations at leading international conferences.
  • Contribute to the development of intellectual property through patent filings and participate in standardization efforts relevant to wireless technologies.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in electrical/electronics engineering, telecommunications, or a related field.
  • Strong background in communication theory, signal processing, and wireless communications.
  • Proven track record of publications in relevant IEEE journals and conferences.
  • Extensive experience in physical layer algorithm design and performance analysis.

Highly Desirable Experience:

  • Research experience in waveform design for RF bands (FR3, MMW, sub-THz/THz).
  • Knowledge of analog/digital/hybrid beamforming.
  • Familiarity with integrated sensing and communication and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces.
  • Experience in hardware-constrained signal processing for wireless communications.
