Position

As part of the Electrical Engineering program within the Engineering Division and the Center of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at the company, the group led by Prof. Kostas J. Kyriakopoulos is focused on enhancing the autonomy of Field Robotic systems through the integration of control theory and machine intelligence approaches. The current emphasis is on Marine Robotics, but candidates with experience in Aerial or Ground Systems are also welcome.

We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Associate to join this expanding team and contribute significantly to the field. The ideal candidate should possess strong engineering skills to innovate and improve research methodologies, as well as a passionate commitment to multidisciplinary research at the intersection of control theory and machine intelligence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct high-quality and innovative research focused on Control theory and ML methodologies for Field Robotics
  • Assist in developing and implementing the research agenda
  • Reproduce results of state-of-the-art methods
  • Design and implement outdoor experiments to compare proposed work against established baselines
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation for high-impact journals and conferences
  • Create and maintain high-quality research code for reproducibility
  • Collaborate with scientists within the company's Global Network and in Abu Dhabi

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Naval, or Aerospace Engineering
  • First-author peer-reviewed published papers (or under review)
  • Demonstrable research experience in integrating hardware and software of robotic systems
  • Experience in conducting experiments for field robotic systems
  • Proficient programming skills in embedded, real-time software using C/C++ and Python
  • Experience maintaining high-quality code on Github
  • Strong ability to visualize experimental results
  • Effective interpersonal and team-building skills
  • Self-motivated with capacity for independent work as well as teamwork
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and face new challenges

The appointment will last for two (2) years, with the potential for renewal based on performance. The terms of employment are competitive and will include housing and travel subsidies. Applications are being accepted immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
