Post-Doctoral Associate in the Division of Engineering

The Clinical Artificial Intelligence Lab at the company seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to enhance patient care by developing new machine learning methodologies for complex healthcare applications. The lab focuses on leveraging large datasets from electronic health records and medical images to improve diagnostics and prognostics. The researcher will primarily report to Dr. Farah Shamout, engaging with a team of researchers, PhD students, and undergraduate research assistants while collaborating with other campuses and local medical institutions in the UAE.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the supervisor in developing and implementing the research agenda.
• Conduct high-quality research on machine learning methodology for healthcare.
• Generate innovative ideas addressing gaps in the state-of-the-art (SOTA).
• Design and implement experiments comparing proposed work with SOTA.
• Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present at academic gatherings.
• Create and maintain high-quality research code for reproducibility.
• Manage sensitive medical datasets ethically.
• Assist in preparing grant applications when appropriate.
• Collaborate within the Global Network and Abu Dhabi.

Training & Professional Development:

• Attend trainings and workshops for career development.
• Mentor PhD students and undergraduates as applicable.
• Participate in events and committees, such as the Postdoctoral Council Steering Committee.
• Gain experience in applying for local research grants, subject to eligibility.
• Create a personalized training and development plan with the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Completed or in process of completing a PhD, MD/PhD, DPhil, or equivalent terminal degree (within 5 years of degree completion).
• Research experience in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, computer engineering, or a relevant field.
• First-author peer-reviewed published papers (or under review).
• Proficient in Python and libraries (e.g., Pytorch, TensorFlow).
• Experience managing code quality on GitHub and running experiments on GPUs.
• Effective interpersonal and team-building skills.
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Research in machine learning specific to healthcare.
• Knowledge of multi-modal learning, transfer learning, and self-supervised learning.
• Experience with large medical datasets.
• Ability to use high-performance computing clusters.
