Post-Doctoral Associate in the Division of Engineering

The Division of Engineering (Civil and Urban Engineering) at New York University Abu Dhabi is seeking a Post-Doctoral Associate to work on research centered around infrastructure systems and the environment under the supervision of Dr. Ahmad Bin Thaneya. The Post-Doctoral Associate will lead collaborative efforts in advancing research that focuses on the intersection of infrastructure, climate, and human health.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing optimization models to analyze and mitigate fine particulate matter (PM2.5) exposure from various infrastructure systems (e.g., transportation networks, manufacturing systems, truck routing).
• Assessing the relevance of the intake fraction of major emission sources as a critical metric for infrastructure design, management, and policymaking.
• Investigating residual sources of PM2.5 exposure from transportation systems following electric vehicle (EV) adoption, including emissions from electricity generation, pavement resurfacing, tire and brake wear, and supply chain effects.
• Conducting life-cycle uncertainty assessments of building materials, carbon sinks, and alternative low-carbon fuel sources.

Qualifications:

• A PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering or a related field.
• High proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python or MATLAB).
• A strong record of authorship in peer-reviewed academic journals.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration.
