The Robot Learning & Control laboratory in the Division of Engineering at NYU Abu Dhabi is seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Associate to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in robot control, machine learning, and differential geometry, focusing on developing advanced algorithms to enhance the safety and robustness of human-robot interaction.

The postdoc will work on projects focusing on:

  • Learning-Based Control: Developing reinforcement learning, imitation learning, and learning from demonstration (LfD) techniques to improve adaptability and efficiency in dynamic robotic systems.
  • Safe and Certified Control: Designing control algorithms that ensure passivity, Lyapunov stability, and safety for human-robot collaboration.
  • Advanced Manipulation and Navigation: Enabling robots to handle complex, dynamic environments, including those involving deformable objects and uncertain conditions.
  • Human-Robot Interaction: Creating adaptive frameworks for safe, effective collaboration between robots and humans in shared workspaces.
  • Integration of AI and Robotics: Leveraging cutting-edge machine learning, including Large Language Models (LLMs), to enhance decision-making and planning in robotic systems.

Location: NYU Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Emirate, United Arab Emirates
Work Conditions: On-site, Full-time
Duration: 2 years, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and project needs

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Robotics, Control Theory, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field, with a strong focus on robot control, machine learning, and differential geometry.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing advanced control and learning algorithms, particularly in the context of human-robot interaction, as well as experience working with real robotic manipulators.
  • High degree of self-motivation, research-oriented thinking, and a drive to operationalize robotic systems for real-world tasks.
  • Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) is highly desirable; strong motivation to explore this area is essential if not.
  • Strong publication record in high-impact journals and conferences.
  • Proficiency in programming languages and tools commonly used in robotics, such as C, MATLAB, Python, and ROS.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary research environment.
