Position

The newly established NYUAD Wireless Research Center at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a Post-Doctoral Associate (PDA) who will conduct research on the physical layer design of optical wireless communication systems, enabling wireless access/backhaul for 6G and beyond networks. The PDA will be jointly supervised by Dr. Murat Uysal and Dr. Qurrat-Ul-Ain Nadeem.

Location: Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Emirate, United Arab Emirates (On-site)

Work Conditions: Full-time

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research to design and develop optical wireless communication systems.
  • Develop mathematical models for signal transmission/reception and derive performance limits.
  • Design and evaluate system performance through computer simulations and/or experimental means.
  • Actively disseminate research results through publications and presentations at leading international conferences.
  • Contribute to intellectual property development through patent filings.
  • Participate in international standardization efforts related to optical wireless technologies in collaboration with academic and industrial partners.

Qualifications:

  • A PhD degree in electrical/electronics engineering, telecommunications, or a related field.
  • Strong background in communication theory, signal processing, wireless/optical communications, and communication system engineering.
  • Extensive experience in physical layer algorithm design and performance analysis.
  • Proven track record of publications in relevant IEEE journals and conferences.

Desirable Skills:

  • Prior research experience in one or more of the following topics:
    • Free space optical communication
    • Visible light communication
    • DSP for coherent optical communication
    • Machine learning and AI-native physical layer design
    • Optical reconfigurable intelligent surfaces
    • Spatial mode multiplexing and orbital angular momentum
