Principal AI Engineer

The company is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to lead AI capability across delivery, focusing on model selection and evaluation, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop design. The ideal candidate will set the standard for responsible AI at the company and ensure that AI tooling is integrated into daily engineering workflows.

Responsibilities:

• AI Capability and Delivery:

  • Lead model selection and evaluation for AI across delivery teams, ensuring models match operational needs.
  • Design guardrails and workflows to maintain AI outputs that are safe, explainable, and trusted.
  • Own and prioritize the technical roadmap for AI capability within the organization.
  • Collaborate with the principal solution architect to ensure AI components are well integrated into the platform architecture.

• Responsible AI and Tooling:

  • Establish responsible AI standards addressing evaluation, bias, safety, and human oversight.
  • Integrate AI tooling into engineering workflows and support teams in its adoption.
  • Stay updated on the evolving AI landscape and provide practical recommendations.
  • Represent the company's approach to responsible AI with clients, partners, and regulators as needed.

Qualifications:

• Substantial hands-on experience in AI or machine learning engineering within a product or platform team.
• Direct experience with model selection, evaluation, and guardrail design in production systems.
• A genuine interest in responsible AI, with experience in setting standards that withstand scrutiny.
• Comfort in embedding AI tooling into engineering workflows and guiding other engineers.
• Experience in defense, government, or other high-stakes, regulated sectors is strongly preferred.
• Excellent communication skills and sound judgment regarding AI applicability.
