Responsibilities
As a Principal Engineer-Hardware (E&E), you will be responsible for:

  • Proficient use of Altium or similar PCB design software for schematic capture, component library management, SPICE analysis, and layout design.
  • Extensive experience designing electronic safety and arming devices in compliance with military standards such as MIL-STD-1316.
  • Design work involving advanced chips such as FPGA, MCUs, and DDR memories.
  • Expert layout design of advanced multilayer PCBs, incorporating techniques such as blind and buried vias, via-in-pad strategies, Ball Grid Array (BGA) configurations, and Surface-Mount Technology (SMT)/Plated-Through-Hole (PTH) components.
  • Designing PCBs for harsh environments typical in military applications, requiring special materials or design methods.
  • Specialized expertise in designing embedded systems and integrating components within the PCB substrate.
  • Ensuring the segregation of analog and digital domains in PCB layouts to maintain signal integrity and minimize interference.
  • Creating detailed PCB layout designs for power systems, including component placement, signal routing, power planes, and thermal management.
  • Designing for low EMI and noise, with an emphasis on proper grounding, shielding, and filtering.
  • Generating documentation for complex printed circuit boards, adhering to applicable IPC and military standards.
  • Mentoring and training junior technical staff.
  • Using debugging tools including integrated soft logic analyzers and conducting hardware testing using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in VHDL coding and PCB design within a defense context.
  • Knowledge of Altium Designer and proven capability to troubleshoot hardware related to PCB prototypes.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
  • Expertise in digital electronics, power supply management (buck, boost, fly-back, inverters), and high-speed data handling.
  • Familiarity with microcontroller and digital signal processor architectures to optimize PCB designs for embedded applications.
