Principal Product Designer

About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Principal Product Designer to lead design work and manage a design pod across our AI-native portfolio, which includes personal AI agents, executive intelligence, agentic workflows, governance platforms, and domain-specific solutions. This position is ideal for an inventor who can translate abstract visions—such as executive ambitions, policy goals, or newly identified capabilities—into concrete and innovative products that users trust and utilize every day. Your responsibilities will define how users delegate real work to autonomous systems while maintaining control over the unpredictable outcomes achieved by AI.

Responsibilities

Vision and Strategy

• Define the product design vision, experience principles, and quality expectations across the portfolio.
• Translate the abstract vision and emerging AI capabilities into concrete product concepts and shipped experiences.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Science teams to shape both short-term and long-term product strategies and roadmaps.
• Convert business and governmental requirements into use cases and high-level customer experiences.
• Promote sharper design thinking and seamless processes throughout the organization.

Building AI-native Apps, Not Just Interfaces

• Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, embracing ambiguity while balancing stakeholder input and functional requirements.
• Lead discovery, UX research, journey mapping, interaction design, prototyping, usability testing, and production phases.
• Oversee the entire lifecycle of AI-native design projects, from strategy to execution and launch.
• Design for AI uncertainty and failure with safeguards to address potential issues such as incorrect outputs and non-deterministic behavior.
• Create intuitive experiences for AI agents, conversational interfaces, dashboards, and AI workflows.
• Clearly communicate AI capabilities and limitations to users to calibrate their trust in expected performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align AI experiences with product designs across all levels.
• Contribute to evaluation metrics and define what constitutes good output from a user perspective.
• Ground designs in quantitative and qualitative data derived from user research and stakeholder feedback.
• Establish success metrics (such as adoption rates, task success, and trust calibration) in collaboration with Product, Science, and Engineering teams.

Design Systems, Best Practices, and Outcomes

• Develop and govern scalable design systems across various formats including web, mobile, and conversational interfaces.
• Create interfaces and interaction flows in design tools like Figma for rapid idea testing and stakeholder alignment.
• Maintain clear design specifications, ensuring all stakeholders meet established design quality standards.
• Facilitate bilingual support (English and Arabic) within product designs, considering cultural context in typography and layout.
• Adhere to responsible AI practices by focusing on privacy, data residency, and human-in-the-loop controls.

Leadership and Influence

• Act as a hands-on leader; set design direction while contributing to solving complex design challenges.
• Mentor and manage full-time and contract product designers, establishing high standards for craft and critique.
• Present design concepts to various stakeholders, including executive teams and enterprise customers, effectively integrating their feedback.
• Translate complex ideas into understandable concepts for diverse audiences including executives and domain experts.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of product design experience, including team management for significant design initiatives.
• An online portfolio showcasing end-to-end product ownership, interaction design, visual craftsmanship, and measurable outcomes.
• Expertise in user interface design best practices, information architecture, and interaction design.
• Proven experience with life-cycle design projects, from strategy through execution.
• Familiarity with designing complex enterprise, SaaS, workflow, operational, or data-rich products.
• Strong skills in user research, prototyping, usability testing, and design systems.
• Expert proficiency in Figma and other design and prototyping tools.
• Experience with AI-powered products like agents, conversational UIs, and intelligent workflows.
• Knowledge of human-AI interactions, explainability, and trust-building with users.
• Familiarity with AI concepts such as prompts and memory.
• Experience with AI-assisted design tools in daily workflows.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work effectively in ambiguous and rapidly changing environments.
• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Product Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AI governance and decision-intelligence products.
• Background in designing bilingual Arabic and English products; Arabic language skills would be beneficial but are not required.
• Familiar with front-end technologies or design-to-code workflows and capable of prototyping in code.
• Understanding of conversational and voice design principles.
• Experience interacting with senior executives and government stakeholders.
• Familiarity with regulated industries such as healthcare and finance.
• Experience in scaling a design function from a small team.
