Principal Product Designer

About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Principal Product Designer to lead design work and manage a design pod across our AI-native portfolio, which includes personal AI agents, executive intelligence, agentic workflows, governance platforms, and domain-specific solutions. Your role will be to translate abstract vision – whether it's an executive ambition, a policy goal, or a model capability that has recently emerged – into real, innovative products that users trust and utilize every day. You will play a key role in defining how people interact with autonomous systems while maintaining control over unpredictable AI outcomes.
You will own the design process from discovery to delivery, set the craft standards and design systems across multiple products, and redefine product design best practices. Your work will involve shaping not just the interface but also the behavior of the AI systems that users will interact with.

Responsibilities
Vision and Strategy

• Define the design vision, experience principles, and quality standards across the AI product portfolio.
• Translate business ambitions, government requirements, and emerging AI capabilities into practical product concepts and real-world experiences.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Science teams to shape both near- and long-term roadmaps, enhance design thinking, and improve delivery processes.

End-to-End AI Product Design

• Lead discovery phases, user research, journey mapping, interaction design, prototyping, usability testing, and production, managing the design from strategy through launch.
• Oversee multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while balancing ambiguity, stakeholder input, functional requirements, and timelines.
• Create intuitive agents, copilots, multi-agent systems, dashboards, conversational interfaces, and workflows, addressing aspects such as memory, citations, and long-running actions.
• Design for uncertainty and potential failure, including issues like incorrect outputs, incomplete information, refusals, streaming issues, tool errors, and unpredictable behavior.
• Communicate AI capabilities and limitations clearly to users, enabling them to delegate work confidently and maintain control over AI-driven outcomes.
• Collaborate on aspects like prompts, system behavior, tone of voice, output structure, content standards, and guardrails to ensure that AI behavior aligns with user experience intentions.
• Define optimal output from the user's perspective and contribute to evaluation criteria, test sets, and human review loops.
• Base decisions on user and market research, behavioral data, telemetry, and stakeholder feedback.
• Measure key performance indicators such as adoption rates, task success, time-to-value, error correction metrics, and users’ ability to trust AI.

Design Systems and Quality

• Establish and govern reusable design systems across web, mobile, conversational, voice, and workflow experiences.
• Utilize Figma, prototyping tools, and AI tools for rapid idea exploration; create working prototypes to test concepts and align with stakeholders.
• Maintain clear design specifications and uphold consistent standards for interaction, visual design, content, and usability throughout the delivery process.
• Support both English and Arabic experiences, ensuring appropriate layouts, typography, and cultural context.
• Integrate responsible AI requirements regarding AI disclosure, privacy, data residency, auditability, and human oversight.

Leadership and Influence

• Lead a design pod while also engaging hands-on with complex design challenges.
• Recruit, mentor, and develop both permanent and contract designers, enhancing craft, critique, and product thinking.
• Clearly present design concepts and decisions to Product, Engineering, Science teams, leadership, government stakeholders, enterprise customers, and partners.
• Translate high-level feedback into actionable improvements and communicate complex ideas effectively to executives, engineers, and domain experts.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of product design experience, with a background in managing teams for significant design initiatives.
• An online portfolio showcasing end-to-end product ownership, interaction design, visual craft, and measurable outcomes, including case studies that highlight your process and design decisions.
• Strong familiarity with best practices related to user interface design, information architecture, and interaction design.
• Proven experience with lifecycle design projects from strategy to execution.
• Experience designing complex enterprise, SaaS, workflow, operational, or data-rich products.
• Deep expertise in user research, information architecture, prototyping, usability testing, and design systems.
• Expert proficiency in Figma and other design/prototyping software.
• Experience in designing AI-powered products, such as agents, copilots, conversational UIs, and intelligent workflows.
• Practical understanding of human-AI interaction, explainability, trust, user control, and human-in-the-loop design principles.
• Familiarity with AI-related concepts such as prompts, context, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), citations, memory, and evaluations.
• Experience employing AI-assisted design, coding, research, or prototyping tools in daily tasks.
• Strong skills in leadership, stakeholder management, communication, and presenting design concepts.
• Capacity to navigate ambiguity and achieve clarity in a dynamic environment.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Product Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in AI governance, workflow builders, decision-intelligence products, or enterprise AI platforms.
• Experience designing products in both Arabic and English; ability in Arabic is an advantage but not required.
• Understanding of frontend technologies or design-to-code workflows, along with the ability to prototype in code.
• Solid foundation in conversational and voice design principles.
• Experience interfacing directly with senior executives, government stakeholders, and enterprise customers.
• Experience in regulated sectors such as healthcare, energy, financial services, or the public sector.
• Proven experience building or scaling a design function from a small beginning.
