Principal Project Control Specialist

About the Role
As a Project Controls professional, you will provide specialist project control services to support the company project control system. Your primary responsibilities include project execution, managing deliverables, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. You will also work closely with project teams to ensure effective communication and project tracking, focusing on cost management and reporting. This role requires a strong commitment to HSE principles and a proactive approach to achieving project goals and client satisfaction.

Major Accountabilities

• Project Execution:
  • Provide specialist project control services for the support of the company project control system.
  • Assist the Business Systems Group in the rollout of the project control system, including initial configuration and contribution to training activities.
  • Liaise with project teams to ensure correct utilization of the project control system based on project-specific requirements and corporate guidelines.
  • Work with project management and document controls to develop a project setup that meets internal and external Project Services requirements.
  • Provide planning/scheduling services to project teams to ensure completion dates are met.
  • Provide cost control services to project teams to ensure proper project cost management and profitability monitoring.
  • Analyze costs/schedules and report on anomalies that may impact the final project forecast and expected completion date.
  • Provide Planning/Scheduling and cost estimation support for proposals.
  • Facilitate communication among Project Managers, Discipline Leads, System Administrators, and Document Controllers.
  • Ensure integrity of cost control data and coordinate with Finance as needed.
  • Liaise with clients on cost-related issues and develop timely monthly invoices, ensuring payment according to contract terms.
• Project Deliverables:
  • Review and develop data interfaces for third-party project systems as required.
  • Prepare and control Work Orders (WO).
  • Implement financial controls while managing authorizations of expenditures and cash flow projections.
  • Provide weekly project updates including cost control, schedule updates, and subcontractor progress management.
  • Issue internal weekly project status reports and prepare monthly financial reports along with other ad-hoc financial analysis.
  • Ensure projects are controlled and documented according to Project Services standards; conduct timely Project Controls audits.
• Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure reporting is error-free and operates within Quality Assurance systems.
• Safety:
  • Responsible for personal safety and adherence to Occupational Health & Safety procedures.
  • Implement HSE guidelines and strive for best practices in design processes.

Knowledge / Experience / Competencies Required

• Job Specific Knowledge:
  • Commitment to HSE management in a project environment.
  • Knowledge of engineering design, construction, and project delivery.
  • Familiarity with the company Project Review (WPR) and Enterprise Management System (EMS).
  • Understanding of Oracle (finance and time sheeting) and Ecosys (Project Control).
  • Experience with large engineering projects on a reimbursable basis.

• Industry Specific Experience:
  • Minimum 15 years of planning/cost control experience in the oil and gas industry, with at least 10 years as a Project Controls Engineer for offshore/onshore projects.
  • Proven track record in handling various phases of engineering projects, including Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detail Engineering.
  • Experience managing brownfield engineering projects is preferred.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training

• Full-Time Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
• Project Controls certification from PMI or AACE is preferred.

IT Skills

• Proficiency in Primavera, Primavera Risk Analysis/Acumen Fuse, Excel (advanced skills), and Ecosys (working knowledge).
