Principal RCS Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Electromagnetic Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maturing the design and development of absorber materials, critically analyzing the areas requiring absorbers, working closely with airframe designers and production engineering to integrate absorbers into critical areas without destroying the properties of surrounding areas, and testing and refining solutions. This role requires a strong theoretical background in electromagnetism, combined with practical experience in design and analysis using specialized software.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, analysis and Development:
  • Design and optimize low-observable (LO) features for platforms, including shaping, material selection, and internal component arrangement.
  • Perform detailed radar cross-section (RCS) analysis using computational electromagnetics (CEM) tools (e.g., CST Microwave Studio and in-house software tools).
• Modeling and Simulation:
  • Interact with the Aerodynamic and Structures teams for the iterative process of conceptual aerodynamic sizing with stealth shaping (including advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of the aerodynamic shape), stability and control checks, along with structural checks (finite element analysis (FEA) and volume checks that airframe systems can be contained within the aerodynamic and structural constraints) before analyzing the RCS with CST and in-house codes, repeating this iterative process until a balanced solution is obtained where the stealth performance and its impact on platform aerodynamics and structural integrity are fully evaluated and determined.
  • Develop and validate physics-based models for predicting and mitigating various signatures.
  • Perform trade studies to evaluate the performance, cost, and weight implications of different stealth design approaches.
• Testing and Validation:
  • Support the planning and execution of compact range/anechoic chamber testing, open-air range testing, and flight trials to validate stealth performance.
  • Analyze test data to correlate with computational models and identify discrepancies.
  • Work with a team of engineers and technicians to integrate stealth materials and components onto platforms.
• Collaboration and Innovation:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems engineers, mechanical engineers, aerodynamicists, stability and control engineers, production engineers, product support (logistics) engineers, and program managers, to ensure stealth requirements are met throughout the platform's lifecycle.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in stealth technology, materials science, and computational methods.
  • Contribute to the development of new stealth concepts and intellectual property.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Education:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related field. A Ph.D. is highly preferred.
• Experience:
  • 5 - 10 years of experience in an EM engineering role, preferably radar LO/stealth related with a focus on RCS reduction.
• Technical Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of electromagnetic principles, theories, and wave propagation.
  • Strong understanding of electromagnetics, RF propagation, and antenna theory.
  • Proficiency with CEM software such as CST, FEKO, or HFSS.
  • Experience with scientific programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for data analysis and automation.
  • Experience with lab equipment for testing and measurement (e.g., vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers).
• Soft Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with a range of stealth materials, including radar-absorbent materials (RAM) and measurement of RAM.
• Knowledge of RF measurement techniques and equipment (e.g., network analyzers, spectrum analyzers).
