Position

Technology Innovation Institute (TII) is a publicly funded research institute, based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. We are looking for a creative and technically skilled Product Design Engineer to lead the design and development of our next-generation underwater products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical and industrial design, with a deep understanding of materials and manufacturing processes for high-pressure, marine environments.

This role will be responsible for translating product requirements into functional, durable, and aesthetically pleasing designs.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conceptual Design: Lead the ideation and conceptual design process for new underwater products, considering factors like hydrodynamics, user experience, and environmental resilience.
  • CAD Modeling: Develop detailed 3D models and technical drawings using industry-standard CAD software for prototyping and manufacturing.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Create physical prototypes and lead stress testing, including pressure and corrosion resistance, to validate design integrity.
  • Materials Selection: Research and specify appropriate materials, finishes, and components that can withstand the harsh conditions of the marine environment.
  • Manufacturing Collaboration: Work closely with manufacturing partners to ensure designs are optimized for mass production and quality control.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating a creative and effective approach to product design and aesthetics.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical principles, kinematics, and structural analysis.
  • Expertise in materials suitable for underwater use, such as corrosion-resistant alloys, polymers, and composites.
  • Proficiency in using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other simulation tools to test and validate designs virtually.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in product design, preferably with products for demanding environments like marine, aerospace, or medical devices.
  • Expert-level proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, CATIA) and rendering tools.
