Responsibilities
- Engineering:
- Run the app and feature teams day to day: unblock, review, and keep them shipping.
- Set and hold a high engineering bar for performance, reliability, and clean APIs.
- Own the technical design of features and the API surface between our AI core and the app.
- Ensure your teams collaborate closely with our AI research and deep tech teams on code reviews and designs.
- Product Partnership:
- Work alongside QV.AC's product managers to convert vision and roadmap into scoped, buildable work.
- Push back when scope and reality don’t align, proposing better paths when applicable.
- Bring an engineering perspective to product decisions, especially regarding local models' current capabilities.
- Use AI tools and prototypes to validate ideas before commitment.
- Leadership:
- Create clarity around team goals and define what success looks like.
- Mentor team leads to strengthen team operations and foster their leadership growth.
- Lead by example; engage directly when needed and step back when the team is ready to take ownership.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Experience managing engineers or engineering leads in consumer product development, ideally in AI-powered applications.
- Strong product sense with the ability to distinguish between impactful features and those that clutter.
- Intuition for applied AI and understanding of on-device constraints, including model size, latency, memory, and battery life.
- Proficiency in JavaScript and React.
- Initiative, curiosity, resilience, and the ability to accept and provide direct feedback.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with local or on-device inference, large language model evaluations, cross-platform mobile and desktop applications, or open-source projects is a bonus.
