About the role
A hands-on QA engineer is needed to own the quality of our CTRM platform from end to end. This role involves deciding what needs to be tested, building automation, finding critical defects, and ensuring they remain fixed. As a QA engineer, you will collaborate directly with backend engineers, the product manager, the data team, and the traders and finance users who rely on the system for their business operations, without an account manager acting as intermediary.

In this environment, where agents primarily write the code, testing becomes increasingly significant. The team is designed for quick shipping, making independent verification essential to ensure the system meets business needs rather than merely confirming the existing code functionality.
What the work looks like
The platform being developed allows users involved in a deal to reconstruct the P&L between any two points in the chain, at any moment, based on an agreed and versioned allocation basis. Defects in this context are rarely simple user interface issues. They may include inaccuracies in pricing formulas, unupdated provisional costs, fluctuations in figures upon re-executing past months, or incorrect FX rates applied. Data from this system inform invoices, hedges, and shareholder reporting.
Scope
- Develop test strategies and plans for the platform, covering: deal capture, pricing and pricing periods, provisional and final invoicing, costs, demurrage and claims, P&L and margin, and reporting.
- Create automated tests at API, data, and UI levels, and integrate them into CI, ensuring every change is tested against them.
- Design realistic test data and scenarios including term contracts, multi-lot cargoes, price-formula deals, FX, late invoices, and cost reallocations, and establish expected results validated by business stakeholders.
- Conduct regression testing to confirm that the same deal consistently produces the same P&L and that past dates can reproduce P&L as it was at that time.
- Perform data and integration testing, working with market data feeds and reconciling platform data with source data.
- Critically review agent-written code and tests, recognizing that tests that always pass may be less informative than no tests at all.
- Collaborate with users during acceptance testing to transform their observations into reproducible defects.
- Assess release quality, determining which versions are safe to ship and the rationale behind these decisions.
Requirements
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in QA or software testing, including ownership of test strategy and automation for a business-critical product.
- Strong proficiency in test automation using Python (pytest or similar) or another mainstream language; experience in API testing and UI automation (using Playwright, Cypress, or comparable tools).
- Solid SQL skills, enabling direct data testing, including writing queries to verify calculations, identify mismatches, and validate discrepancies.
- Proven experience testing calculation-heavy or financial systems such as trading, banking, payments, billing, ERP, or accounting, with a focus on edge cases including rounding, dates, time zones, currencies, partial quantities, and transaction corrections.
- Understanding of CI/CD practices and the integration of relevant tests.
- Experience working with coding agents, with an emphasis on utilizing them for writing tests and tooling as well as recognizing potential failure modes, such as assumptions that the code behaves according to expectations. We prioritize verification habits over speed.
- Strong communication skills to produce precise written defect reports and actionable test results.
- Proficiency in English to effectively present findings and support release decisions, and professional proficiency in Russian.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with CTRM/ETRM systems or experience in energy or commodity trading, covering deal lifecycles, pricing formulas, invoicing, and P&L.
- Experience with performance and load testing.
- Knowledge in property-based or data-driven testing for financial calculations.
- Background in establishing a QA function or setting up test frameworks within a growing team.
What we offer
- Ownership of the quality assurance process on the platform with the opportunity to influence testing methodologies.
- Direct access to founders, engineers, and business users, facilitating short feedback loops.
- A generous budget for AI tooling; access to cutting-edge models is considered a working expense rather than a perk.
- Competitive compensation, tailored to individual negotiations.
