Research Assistant – Center for Smart Engineering Materials

The Center for Smart Engineering Materials (CSEM) at New York University Abu Dhabi is inviting applications for a Kawader fellowship in the areas of thermal, mechanical, and electrical characterization of materials. The successful candidate will work collaboratively as a research fellow with the CSEM and the Smart Materials Lab (Naumov research group).

The role involves the preparation, characterization, and testing of new smart materials, focusing on the intersection of materials science, chemistry, and engineering. Candidates should have a solid foundation in thermal or mechanical characterization of the surface and bulk properties of solids, whether from solid-state physics or mechanical engineering backgrounds. Research projects will explore experimental and modeling aspects of how temperature affects mechanical properties, including the capacity for elastic or plastic deformation.

Responsibilities will include conducting experiments, processing data, preparing results for presentation in articles and conferences, submitting biweekly research reports, participating in group seminars, and training students and other researchers in relevant techniques. The candidate will also have the opportunity to work on individualized research projects under the guidance of Prof. Panče Naumov.

Qualifications:

• Background in mechanical engineering, solid-state physics, chemistry, or materials solid-state chemistry.
• Preference for candidates with experimental skills and/or modeling experience in the characterization of thermal and mechanical properties.
• A strong publication record in engineering or science is highly valued.
